The first recorded public gym was found in Paris, France in 1847. Clearly people have being getting fit for over a hundred years! Some people do believe that a gym was open before this in Santa Monica, California.

Over time gyms have expanded and changed to accommodate the public and the equipment that is available. For all gym enthusiasts out there 'Muscle Beach' will be something you are familiar with! Muscle Beach is located in Venice, California. It has been to to accommodate some very well known bodybuilders including the legendary Arnold ( Arnie). Obviously not everyone was going to travel to Venice to visit and train at Muscle Beach so gym's like Gold's Gym opened up all over the United States and become very popular. Gold's Gym is now a common hang out for bodybuilders and casual gym goer's. Gold's was originally opened by Joe Gold in California but there is now more the 600 Gold's spread around the world. Gold's became a friendly place where anyone could come to try and achieve their goals. Gold's gym pride themselves on being able to help normal people find their strength. Their slogan is : ' Gold's Gym... Know Your Own Strength.'
